Climbing brings people together worldwide – but social inequalities between consumption, production and the stories behind them often remain invisible. Under the title ‘Climbing for a better future’, we at Vertical Pro want to create a platform for an open panel discussion on how we as a climbing and mountaineering community can take joint responsibility and bring the ethical principles that are already within us to the world.
How can our decisions when buying equipment or clothing actually make a difference? What networks, collaborations and principles need to be in place to ensure that social sustainability is not just a label, but enables genuine participation – including for people in the countries where our products are made? How can athletes worldwide get the support they need to participate in this wonderful sport?
At KAEMP 8848, we see ourselves as having a special role to play here: as a brand with roots in Nepal, we understand both sides – the perspective of the producers and the expectations of consumers in Europe. Together with Prashu, daughter of the KAEMP founder and herself deeply rooted in the Nepalese mountaineering community, we want to provide concrete insights into what social justice and fair production conditions can look like in practice. We want to inspire, encourage and, above all, show that fair production chains and sustainable business practices are not only possible, but can be the next evolutionary step for the climbing industry.
We cordially invite you to a panel discussion that is not intended to be a glossy presentation, but rather a space for honest dialogue, questions and a common goal: Climb to the next level of fairness.
Let's find out together how climbing can make not only our lives, but also the world a little better.
