Understanding fear of falling in (sport) climbing: recognising symptoms, identifying causes and using practical techniques to transform fear into growth and safety.

Falls are part of climbing, as is the fear of falling. This lecture is about understanding the fear of falling, recognising its causes and finding ways to deal with it. Using techniques and examples from practice, I show how climbers can leave their comfort zone step by step in order to build trust in the equipment, their belay partner and, above all, themselves, while also minimising the fear of injury. I will also explain how fears arise in the brain and how targeted training and conscious behaviour can help you recognise and change your own fear patterns. The aim is to use the fear of falling not as an obstacle, but as a companion that creates security and enables personal growth.
